Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas and Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell reveal how they first met at a pub in Monaco

Finnish Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas and Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell have been dating since 2020, it has been reported.

And now the smitten pair, and sporting’s newest power couple, have spoken candidly about their relationship and how they first met in a pub.

The duo, 35 and 36 respectively, appeared together on Nova’s The Heart of It podcast where they had a chat to actor Cameron Daddo.

The pair said they first met at a pub in Monaco, where Cromwell was living as a cyclist, before a second meeting.

“So I was already living over here, because we have to live in Europe to race our bikes, and Valt happened to be living there too, and just we happened to be in that same pub at the same night, and, yeah, the rest is history,” she said.

He clarified: ”Well, once we met, it was actually quite a while that we met again, but we ended up on one bike ride together… but then eventually my life situation changed as I got divorced, and then obviously I could, I kind of knew what I wanted, and that was Tiffany.”

“So then went straight in, and ended up actually coming to Australia that following winter, after we had met and spent some time with with Tiff in Adelaide. And went from there, really… I think somebody just introduced us…,” he said.

He said they shook hands and then once he was divorced and single, he soon found a spark with Cromwell.

“It was just a handshake… I was still married, so obviously, eventually I knew that was not going to work. Once I was not married anymore, then that had a pretty clear target [Cromwell]…”

He said he thought Cromwell “seemed like a lovely person”.

He was previously married to Finnish swimmer Emilia Pikkarainen, but they are believed to have divorced back in 2019.

Last month, as the pair marked Valentine’s Day together, Cromwell shared a sweet tribute to her partner sharing images of the pair together from their time in Mexico.

“Happy Valentine’s ❤️ Day to my one and only,” she captioned a post.

“Such a well suited couple. I was hoping to hear engagement news 😍😍😍,” one fan commented underneath.

Earlier this week, Cromwell revealed she suffered an injury during a race, a collarbone fracture.

“I guess I’m officially a real cyclist now after suffering my first ever collarbone fracture and first proper broken bone of my cycling career,” she shared in a post to fans.

“I don’t count my thumb last year 😉Not the way I had hoped my race would go. Getting taken out by a silly crash only 25km into the race. But that’s how it goes sometimes in bike racing.”

Bottas wrote in a post about her injury: “Sometimes the sport bites you. But no doubt you’ll be back even stronger soon.”
