Coffee prices have seen a steep increase over the past five years and are still climbing.
But what are Aussies actually willing to pay?
An exclusive Nine.com.au poll has revealed 52 per cent of 613 respondents are happy with the current price of coffee. But they may soon be priced out.
The average cup of coffee before the pandemic was $4.00, while these days the average cup of joe will set you back $5.50, according to a recent report.

That’s a price hike of 37.5 per cent but it seems Aussies aren’t too phased with one in two respondents sharing they would be happy to pay between $4.00 and $6.00 for their coffee.
It seems some coffee lovers are OK with paying a little extra, if it means enjoying a tasty brew.
”Coffee prices are going up however for good coffee I am prepared to accept $6.00 for a cup,” one respondent wrote.

However, the price of coffee is continuing to rise.
A single cup of coffee is predicted to cost from $8-$12 by the end of the year due to skyrocketing bean costs.
“This is happening all around Australia. This is affecting every café,” Australian Restaurant and Café Association chief executive Wes Lambert told 9News.
“Up to 30 per cent of businesses will feel heavy pressure by these increases, and we’ve heard about bean prices going up as much as 50 per cent,” he said.

This is a price that only a small fraction of respondents would pay for their coffee.
Two per cent of respondents revealed that they would pay between $7.00 and $10.00 for their coffee while nine per cent said they would pay between $6.00 and $7.00.
Meanwhile, 19 per cent would pay $4.00 or less, a price that is very unlikely to find at a café these days.
According to their responses, these respondents are making cheaper coffees at home or getting them from discount places like service stations.

These days 7/11 are offering a large coffee for $3. Coles Express and Ampol have offerings for $3.50.
“I love my 7/11 coffee for $2,” one respondent shared. “At a restaurant, boutique café or airport I would pay more but not by choice.”
”I don’t tend to buy coffee when out as I have a coffee machine at home and can make it how I like it, shared another.
“You can still drink coffee without resorting to buying takeaway,” another echoed.

Another shared that “the price some [people] charge for a regular coffee is astonishing”.
