The simple hack that speeds up dreaded ironing and even works on ‘tricky’ items

Doing the laundry can sometimes feel a never-ending process – and one we often put off, and put off, and put off until we have no choice but to attend to it.

From perfecting collars, the spaces in between buttons and pleats, it’s no wonder ironing is the most notoriously dull and tricky of all household tasks.

Thankfully, a laundry expert has revealed a game-changing hack that makes the chore far more efficient.

Lora Finn, Vileda’s cleaning expert, tells The Sun it’s all about the technique – especially when it comes to delicate fabrics like satin.

“For a simple hack to save time and reduce shine marks on the fabric, simply take a thin piece of material (for example, a cotton pillowcase) and place it over your clothes when ironing.”

To protect delicate items, place a piece of material over your clothes when ironing.

Finn says that the cotton material acts as a barrier between delicate items and the direct heat from the iron.

When wrangling particularly creased items, domestic cleaner Mariya Gurkova, from at-home services business Fantastic Services recommends using an unexpected household item.

To mimic an iron, all you need is a damp towel and tumble dryer.

The cleaner told The Sun, you could try popping the wrinkled item in the dryer with a clean damp towel and to run it on medium heat for 15 minutes.

The moisture in the towel will generate steam that loosens and smooths out wrinkled fabric.

And it is crucial, she adds, to fold and put away the items while they’re still warm to avoid any further unwanted creases.

Gurkova explains you can also use a hair dryer for similar results when you’re in a pinch.

“Simply dampen the wrinkled area of the garment with water or a wrinkle-removing spray,” she suggests.

“Use the lowest setting and pull the fabric taut when drying.”
