Meghan Markle shares relatable beauty fail during lockdown: ‘Almost Elvira-esque’

Meghan Markle endured a very relatable beauty fail during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whether it be attempting to cut a fringe or experimenting with different colours, hair transformations were a common – and at times instantly regrettable – move for many of us during lockdown without the aid of a hairdresser.

On the fourth episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared how her attempt at box-dyeing didn’t go as planned.

Near the beginning of the episode, Meghan launched into a story of how she met first her podcast guest Kadi Lee in 2020 after a mishap when trying to dye her own hair.

“So my family had just moved to California. We were staying in our friend’s home, and because it was the pandemic I kept ordering boxed hair dye,” the Duchess recalled.

“I thought, ‘I’m gonna look just like she does on the box.'”

But that was not the case.

Instead, Meghan’s self-attempt at colouring her hair came out looking a “very inky, almost Elvira-esque black hair” – referring to the horror hostess character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, portrayed by Cassandra Peterson.

She texted her hair stylist Serge Normant, who did her hair for her 2018 wedding.

Normant referred her to Lee, a hair colourist, who visited Meghan to fix the hair mishap.

In her podcast episode with Lee, Meghan shared why she renamed her brand to As Ever after it was originally called American Riviera Orchard.

She explained the name change came about because it became a bit of a “word salad”.

”I was like, ‘OK, well let’s go back to the thing that I’ve always loved. Let’s use the name that I protected for a reason that had been sort of under wraps” she told Lee.
