Kate Hudson’s parenting advice for mums with older children

Kate Hudson, 46, has shared a piece of advice for mums as their kids get older.

Along with being an award-winning actress, Hudson is a mum of three: sons Ryder, 21, and Bingham Bellamy, 13, and daughter Rani, six.

While on Kylie Kelce’s podcast, Not Gonna Lie, Hudson shared her tip for “all mums”.

“Let your kids go,” the star said in conversation with Kelce, who is the wife of retired NFL star Jason Kelce and sister-in-law to Travis Kelce.

“Let them f—ing go. Don’t hold on, don’t expect anything of them.

“The expectation of, ‘Oh, you need to be here for me’. When they start getting older, it’s like, no, you’ll never hold onto them.”

Hudson said “the second you hold on too tight, it’s going to drive them nuts.”

“They’re going to run. I really think that.”

The star later added to “let them go enjoy their life”.

“Let them be for a bit,” she said, with Kelce chiming in, “Have faith that you did what you were supposed to do as a mum to be able to send them out into the world and thrive.

Hudson continued: ”And what you realise is you might go a week or two and they’re not going to call you, but when they do and they need you…”

“You’re still Mum,” Kelce finished for her.

“Yeah, and it’s OK,” Hudson agreed.

Hudson is the daughter of Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn and is known for starring in the likes of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Almost Famous, and Bride Wars.

The star shares her eldest son, Ryder, with her ex-husband Chris Robinson, and her younger son, Bingham, with her ex fiancé Matt Bellamy.

She welcomed her youngest, daughter Rani, in 2018 with her fiancé Danny Fujikawa.

Hudson has been engaged to musician Fujikawa since 2021.
