Kmart finds: The $4 Kmart buy that makes the hardest part of cleaning windows easy

Windows are straightforward to clean but the tracks at the bottom of them are another story entirely.

Those tiny crevices collect an extraordinary amount of dust and dirt from both the room itself and the air coming in and out of the window.

There are plenty of hacks for getting stuck into them to pull out all the debris, but sometimes what you really need to get the job done is a specially designed gadget.

One tool proving popular for the task is the window sill cleaning set from Kmart, which is a bargain at just $4.

Shoppers have shared their love for the product on social media, including Cassie who showed how well the window sill cleaner works in an Instagram reel on her account @ourcoastalhaven_.

The main window sill cleaner made easy work of removing dust and dirt from her window tracks, and a small plastic scoop that detaches from the main tool was able to pick up remaining debris to put in the bin.

Cassie’s followers were impressed by the gadget.

“Oh, how good,” a woman said.

“I need to get one of those,” one commented.

“How easy does that look,” a shopper wrote.

“Stop it this is life changing haha,” a woman posted.

“Oooo adding to cart,” another said.

The window sill cleaning gadget also featured on TikTok in a post from @keepingupwithkev6 who called it the “Best $4 Kmart find!”.

Kev answered one question you’re probably wondering after watching the cleaning tool in action; ”How do you now clean the cleaner?”.

He responded, “I rinsed it with water.”

The window sill cleaning set comes with a replacement duster so once the original sponge part is looking worse for wear you can swap it for a fresh one.

It can also be used for cleaning sliding door tracks as well.

The product has a 3.8 star rating on the Kmart website, where reviews show most people found it handy but that it could be a better size and needs replacing quickly.

“It’s good, I’m sure you can use other things to clean a window sill but this does help pick up dust and all that – even if you have to help push the thing into the sill or at least I had to for mine. For its price it was I’d say overall it’s good and worth give a go,” one wrote in a review.

“Handy to get into the hard to clean areas particularly to loosen dust & dirt before using the vac to remove,” a shopper’s review said.

“Lost a star as it doesn’t take long to wear it down. However it scrubs well. I had dust and dirt stuck and it’s rough enough texture wise to get into the window tracks and loosen it all up,” a reviewer wrote.

“I have only used once and it was okay but needs more depth to it,” another review said.

Over on Instagram and TikTok the main criticism seemed to be that a vacuum attachment works just as well, but from personal experience I know that you need to lift up the dirt and dust first for vacuuming to be most effective.

If the window sill cleaner set isn’t for you, other options include using a cloth, a toothbrush or the Oates brush cleaning trackbuster from Bunnings.

I tried both the trackbuster brush, which costs $6.49, and a hack using a sponge cut to my window tracks’ shape to clean my window tracks and found the trackbuster brush to be a lot better for the task.
