It was then that she detailed her “battle” with Barack over their home’s thermostat.

”It’s a battle with a partner because he’s always cold and I’m like, ‘Do not touch [the thermostat].’ … Sometimes I wake up hot and I’ll wake him up [to ask], ‘Did you touch the thermostat? You touched it, didn’t you?'” Michelle said.

She said as a result of her questions Barack is now “scared of the thermostat” and responds to her interrogations about it by saying, “I didn’t, I swear.”

Michelle spoke once again about her love of bedtime, a topic she has previously discussed on her podcast IMO which she host alongside her brother Craig Robinson.

She said they eat dinner together at around 6.30pm and she will often start thinking about going to bed by 8pm.

Elsewhere in the chat with Poehler, Michelle outlined another relationship rule Barack abides by in their marriage.

She is allowed to tease him, but he is not allowed to tease her.

“I can tease [him], but [he] cannot tease me,” she told listeners.

She said when their family is together she and their daughters tease Barack “mercilessly” which Poehler pointed out can only be done when you know somebody well.

“When all of us are together, he doesn’t stand a chance. … I tell him, ‘When I tease you, it’s like a love tap’, she said, adding that teasing is their “love language”.

The former US First Lady has also responded to rumours she and Barack were on the brink of divorce.

“If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it… Let me tell you, he would know it,” she explained on her podcast.

“The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was ever really, ever going to quit at it, because that’s not who we are.

“And I know that about him. He knows that about me.”
