The mother of a toddler who has been asked to act as flower girl at a family wedding has been left shocked at a wild request made by the bride.
The mum has taken to Reddit’s ‘AITAH’ thread to ask for advice over the dilemma.
She explained her sister-in-law is angry at her because she is refusing to straighten her 18-month-old daughter’s curly hair for the wedding “so all the flower girls can match”.

“Personally I think that 1.5 is too young to straighten her hair, it’s not good for it and the risk of burning is significant,” the concerned mum explained in the post.
“She knew she had curly hair when she asked us so idk why now 2 months before the wedding it is an issue.”

The mum described her daughter’s hair as “tight ringlet curls” and despite it being “pretty long when wet she looks like she has short baby hair when it’s dried and curly”
“It’s adorable and I simply do not understand the point of changing the way she is to fit someone else’s picture perfect wedding,” the concerned mum continued.
“I will obviously put in a cute headband and wet the curls and use products to make them less frizzy but I refuse to straighten them.”
Unsurprisingly most people agreed that the bride was out of order to ask that from a toddler.
One Redditer commented: “Your SIL is an idiot.”
Another mother agreed straightening the toddler’s hair comes with a serious risk of her being burned and replied, “little ones won’t sit still for that, especially when they feel the heat close to them”.
“Ask her why all the other flower girls aren’t curling their hair so they can match. Ffs bridezillas be cray-cray,” another commented.
“Matching hair for toddlers is ridiculous! Let them be cute and natural,” one Redditer added.

The flower girl’s mum added to her post after initial reactions, saying her husband was going to call his sister – the bride – and explain that they won’t be attempting to straighten their daughter’s hair.
The mum admitted she was “pretty ready to drop out of this s–t show” regardless of the outcome of the phone call.

But there was another update to the story.
“Before we were able to call her she saw the post HAHA! Her friend told her about it,” the mum wrote in a follow up.

“She lost it on my hubby and at this point our daughter will no longer be a flower girl and I don’t think we will be going at all… yikes!” she continued.
“She thinks she is still in the right and doesn’t understand why we won’t do it. She says her friends agree. They’re all materialistic and have no kids. I’m really not shocked in the slightest… I’ll update if my MIL gets involved.”
