Two weeks after releasing an extraordinary video showing her twerking with Prince Harry in a hospital delivery room, the Duchess of Sussex has spoken publicly of the now-viral clip.
The footage was filmed as she and the Duke of Sussex awaited the birth of their daughter, Princess Lilibet, and published on Meghan’s Instagram page to celebrate the young royal’s fourth birthday.
It was met with a mixture of amusement, criticism and incredulity.

Now, Meghan has broken her silence on the 80-second clip which saw her lip-syncing and gyrating to the Baby Mama Dance, a song that became a TikTok trend in which pregnant women showcased their dance moves on social media.
The duchess was the guest on the Aspire With Emma Grede podcast and spoke about the twerking video when she and the host were discussing authenticity.
In a short teaser clip shared ahead of the podcast’s release later today, Meghan is heard asking Grede, “did you see my Baby Mama dance?”

Grede said: “We maybe watched it like 20 times yesterday, and I was like, is that, is that her? Is that Prince Harry there with the fingers…I was like, okay…good on Harry, let’s go.
“But that’s you, right? That’s you in a way that we kind of haven’t been able to see you before.
“And I did like a little secret cheer, cause I was like, well, that’s what I kind of want to see from you. Like I wanna see that happiness and that honesty and that ‘I don’t give a f–k’ kind of thing.”

Meghan answered: ”That wasn’t yesterday. That was four years ago. So it’s also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life – a real, authentic, fun life – that’s happening behind the scenes.
“I’m just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.”
The twerking video was also seen by some as a response to the bizarre conspiracy theory that has taken hold online since the birth of Prince Archie in 2019 that both Meghan’s pregnancies were fake.

In the caption shared by Meghan on Instagram on June 4 she said: “Four years ago today.
“Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do!”
Meghan is the guest on this week’s podcast hosted by Grede, described as “one of America’s richest self-made women”.
She is a founding partner of Kim Kardashian’s undergarment company Skims.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Grede asked the duchess whether the public narrative around her was “very different” now than it was before she started dating Prince Harry in 2016.
“It is, Emma,” Meghan said. “It is very different.”
The host then asked the duchess if there was anything she would do differently if she “could rewrite” her public narrative “from scratch”.
“Yes,” Meghan said. “I would ask people to tell the truth.”

Meghan’s own podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, ended two weeks ago after nine episodes.
She is now said to be focusing on growing her lifestyle brand As ever, with a product restock of her fans’ “favourite” products coming on June 20.
However, Meghan has given contradictory statements in recent weeks about her plans.
In an interview with US magazine Fast Company the duchess said that she was not intending to announce any new products until the first quarter of 2026,.
She then added on her podcast she was pressing “pause” on the development of the business until it was “completely stable”.
