Trump agrees to two-week ceasefire with Iran after frantic peace talks; Oil prices rise as US stocks fall; Anthony Albanese to travel to Singapore

The president says he has decided to push back on his threat to destroy an “entire civilization” because the United States has “achieved and exceeded all military objectives.”

The US was also negotiating a long-term peace deal for the Middle East, the president said.

“The reason for this is that we have already achieved and exceeded all military objectives and are very close to reaching a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran and on peace in the Middle East,” Trump wrote.

“We have received a ten-point proposal from Iran and believe this is a workable basis on which to negotiate.

“Almost all the various points of the past have been agreed between the United States and Iran, but a period of two weeks will allow the agreement to be finalized and completed. On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also as a representative of the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor to have this long-term problem almost resolved,” he added.
