Man who reportedly helped bring so-called ‘ISIS brides’ to Australia arrested

It is understood the man traveled to Syria several months ago and attempted to help the woman and children return to Australia.

NewsCorp has reported that the man was arrested on an unrelated assault charge upon his arrival in Sydney after being on the same flight as Janai Safar, one of the alleged ISIS brides who landed at Sydney airport on Thursday evening.

The 32-year-old woman remains in Silverwater Women’s Prison after being transferred there at around 11pm, shortly after landing in Sydney.

Safar was in court yesterday via video link, asking for bail, while her lawyer said she suffered horrific conditions in Syria and was likely suffering from some form of PTSD.

However, the judge ruled that there were no exceptional circumstances and bail was refused.

She is not expected to be confronted court again until July.

A mother and daughter were also arrested in Melbourne and appeared briefly in court yesterday, where it is understood they will appear again on Monday to apply for bail.

The third woman to fly in Melbourne was not arrested, with reports this morning that she and her children may not have to take part in deradicalisation programmes.
It is also believed that a young child flew into it Sydney will undergo a deradicalisation program on Thursday evening before potentially entering the Australian school system.
