Heating is a must when winter arrives and there is one option that beats all the others in terms of coziness.

It is extremely effective at beating the cold and keeping you nice and warm while sitting or lying down, reducing your dependence on heating, especially at night.

That item is heated blankets and throws, which are a must while relaxing on the couch and working from home.

I swear by warm throws and keep one on my couch and another in my home office. They really do warm the body so well and knowing how affordable they are to use means I put them on regularly.

It’s so wonderful and cozy to curl up with a heated throw that I’m looking forward to using them, especially the one on my couch. It’s the nicest way to spend a cold evening.

Last year I rarely needed the heating thanks to a combination of warm clothes and a heated blanket.

That’s not to say you don’t need heaters, they are very useful for taking the chill out of the air, getting through those extra cold days and, in some parts of Australia, vital for surviving the season.

But by using a heated bedspread for those times when you’re just watching TV or reading, and heating yourself instead of the house, the heater can be used for shorter periods and/or at lower settings.

If you want to combine your heated plaid with a heater, or simply need a heater this winter, a wonderful option is the Fireplace stove with flame effect.

For $79 you get not only heat, but also ambiance with a realistic wood flame effect, adjustable flame brightness and thermostat control.

For those times when you just want the ambiance of a fireplace, the LED flame effect can be turned on without heat.

It features a beautiful antique fireplace look, along with overheating protection, tip-over protection and thermal protection.

If you use a heater, it is important to do everything you can to keep the heat in the room.

One of the best ways to prevent heat from escaping through the floor, as well as the cold air that comes through, is to use area rugs.

An option for popping into areas like the hallway or in front of your couch is the $24 green faux fur rugwhich is 110 cm long and 65 cm wide.

Not only does it help keep the heat in, the cozy feeling also prevents your feet from getting a cold shock when they hit the floor.

Another good way to warm up is with a hot meal, but this can be difficult if you bring food from home along the way.

Whether you are in a work environment such as a store or office or waiting in the car, hot home-cooked meals are now possible without a microwave thanks to a smart product.

The $19 warming lunch box has two compartments; one for fruit or salad and one for hot meals.

It keeps food warm at about 70 degrees thanks to a cord that you plug into the socket and it also comes with a car connection cable.
