A group of AFL players have come under fire for admitting their dirty laundry habits in a viral clip that has since been deleted.
On Tuesday, the AFL shared a clip on Instagram in which 12 Aussie Rules players were quizzed about how long they would be away before changing their bedding.
The admissions were startling, with six players admitting they didn’t do it themselves and left that work to their mothers or partners.

“My wife changes them every week,” said the Crows’ Taylor Walker.
“My sheets? My mom does it,” Isaac Kako admitted.
“I didn’t even really realize it was a thing until I got a girlfriend,” Essendon’s Nate Caddy admitted.

“I live with my girlfriend now, so she does it every few weeks,” said Chad Warner of Sydney Swan.
Other comments were shocking for a completely different reason.
“My first year away from home I didn’t realize you had to change them… so they probably stayed on for a year,” admitted Andrew Brayshaw.
Unsurprisingly, people in the comments were shocked not only by the lack of hygiene, but also by the promotion of gender stereotypes.
“I know this was meant to be funny, but the fact that so many of these ‘grown’ men only change their sheets because their wives or girlfriends do it for them, or still let their mothers change their beds, shows how the mental burden for a household is borne by women,” read a comment on the since-deleted post.
Others said this was a “great curse”, and many were shocked that adult men still left this chore to their mothers.

The video was removed from the AFL’s social media pages on Wednesday afternoon.

It’s really baffling that so many grown men seem so clueless about what essentially is such a fundamental job?

While it seems common knowledge that you shouldn’t leave your sheets for a year between washes, there are some things to keep in mind about how often you should do this.
Emma Harding, molecular virology researcher and PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales, explains nine.com.au when it comes to washing sheets and clothes, “it depends on how dirty they get.”
“If you have pets that regularly go outside and jump on your sheets and bring in dirt and microbes, you should wash them at least once a week, probably twice. And if you sweat regularly at night, you should wash your sheets more often,” Harding said.
“If you wear pajamas and rarely come into contact with the sheets, make sure they don’t get any outside dirt on them; once every two weeks is fine.”
While sheets often get a lot of attention when it comes to how often and how best to wash them, it seems like we should be paying more attention to our pillowcases instead.
“When cleaning the sheets, concentrate on the pillowcase as it comes into contact with your face and can get the dirtiest. Replace this at least once a week, if not more often,” she said.
