Aleix Espargaró’s serious crash

The Granollers native was in Sepang for a test session with Honda when he crashed, fracturing four vertebrae.

Honda is conducting private tests at the Sepang circuit with its test riders Takaaki Nakagami and Aleix Espargaró on the 2026 and upcoming 2027 850cc bikes, which are designed for the upcoming regulation changes. And at the Malaysian circuit, the Granollers native suffered a serious crash, as he himself announced on his official social media channels.

“On Tuesday, during testing here at Sepang, I suffered a very serious crash. As a result, I sustained several contusions and four vertebral fractures, though they were very minor, and fortunately did not affect my spinal cord. After spending a few days at CU Aurelius Hospital, where I received wonderful care, I can now fly home with Laura, who came to rescue me from the other side of the world (again—I’ve lost count!). There, we’ll assess whether I need surgery at Quirón Dexeus Hospital,” the rider posted.

Following the accident, which fortunately did not affect his spinal cord, the rider was transferred to the CU Aurelius Hospital in Malaysia, where he was treated “wonderfully.” He remained there until conditions allowed for his transfer to Spain, where he will be examined again to determine the treatment plan and, if necessary, whether surgery is required.

According to motorsport, Aleix was completing a series of test sessions focused on improving the 2026 RC213V, seeking upgrades to the chassis, swingarm, fairing, and traction.
