Amy Sheppard opens up about fertility struggle in emotional post

Aussie singer Amy Sheppard has opened up about her fertility struggles in an emotional video shared with her thousands of followers.

Sheppard shared a candid new TikTok video which documented the heartbreaking moment she and her husband Lachlan Stuart found out their embryo transfer had failed.

“Two and a half years of doing everything right. Of hoping, trying, sacrificing. And still, our first frozen embryo transfer failed,” Sheppard told her followers.

In the video, the Geronimo singer shared a clip of her and Stuart anxiously waiting to see the results from a pregnancy test.

As she looked and saw the negative result, they embraced, trying to process that their IVF round had been unsuccessful.

In the next clip, Sheppard was back to performing on stage.

“We found out, I said goodbye to Lachie, cried in a bathroom stall, then walked onto a stage in front of a thousand people, giving them the most unforgettable night of their lives while experiencing an unforgettable heartbreak of my own,” she recounted.

“That’s the strange thing about this journey…joy and sorrow can exist in the same moment. We don’t get to choose the timing, but we do get to choose to keep going.”

Sheppard said that she would “keep showing up”.

“For the music and for the dream of stepping onto a stage with a full heart – and having a little one waiting in the wings.”

Days earlier, the singer shared a video montage chronicling her journey with unexplained infertility.

“It’s a silent ache for a dream that feels just out of reach,” she said of her struggle.

“The shame, the judgment, the endless questions – it’s a weight so many carry in silence.

Sheppard admitted the weight of this and how so many people feel the shame around it, is why she had decided to share her story with the world.

The star founded and has been part of the Brisbane pop trio Sheppard since 2009 with her siblings George and Emma.

Some of the band’s biggest hits include Geronimo, Coming Home and Learning to Fly. 

Sheppard got engaged to her longtime love, Stuart, in September 2020 after six years of dating. They tied the knot in a Queensland beachside ceremony in 2021.
