Kelly’s family went viral in March 2017 when his children – toddler Marion, followed by baby James in a portable high chair – broke into his office while he was live on BBC News discussing the political crisis in South Korea.

The original video of the moment, posted by the BBC, has over 62 million views. It was filmed from inside Kelly’s South Korean apartment.

“Pardon me, my apologies,” Kelly said during the original interview after the interviewer acknowledged his children in the background.

As he attempted to guide his daughter away from the camera, Kelly’s wife burst through the door and hurriedly herded her children together to remove them from the room.

“There was an unexpected distraction for Professor Robert Kelly when he was being interviewed live on BBC News about South Korea,” the video was captioned.

“But he managed to keep his composure and complete the interview successfully.”

In his X post today, Kelly revealed his son James is now nine. Marion, who goes by her middle name, Yena, is now almost 12.

“Here are James and I hiking yesterday. He is almost 9 now. Here is my wife’s recent formal work photo. I like this one a lot,” he wrote atop photos of the pair.

“Here is Yena – almost 12 – with my wife and James doing his homework. And James doing more homework, reading and practicing words from the story Tickly Octopus with me.”
