British Royal Family Easter 2025: Prince William and Kate Middleton chose to spend Easter with her side of the family

The Prince and Princess of Wales surprised royal followers when they, along with their three children, were noticeably absent from the royal family’s annual Easter Sunday Church service.

This is the second year in a row the family has missed the official celebration at St. George’s Chapel on the Windsor Castle grounds, which this year saw King Charles and Queen Camilla lead the royal arrivals.

Instead, Prince William and Kate opted for a more private celebration.

This year, the royal couple chose to spend the holiday with Catherine’s side of the family.

According to Hello, they attended the 11am service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham with Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

Alongside their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, the couple enjoyed the low-key Easter celebration close to their country home, Anmer Hall, where they often spend time during school holidays.

Hello reports Kate wore a long camel-coloured coat with a brown hat for the church outing and William a dark suit, adding that the vicar, Canon Paul Williams, handed the family hot cross buns as they left the service.

They allegedly left through the back entrance to avoid a large crowd of fans gathered out the front of the church.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ absence from official Easter celebrations didn’t come as a shock, with several outlets reporting on their plans ahead of the weekend.

”They are choosing to spend time together as a family before the children go back to school,” a source is quoted as telling The Mirror‘s Russell Myers.

The Mirror also reported Prince William had notified his father King Charles of his plans to celebrate Easter privately.
