“I could smell the smoke coming out, and then I heard the bang of the car hitting the store,” a witness told 9News.

A man, probably the driver, was taken from the salon by two plainclothes officers.

The disoriented driver, aged in his 40s, was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

Two female employees in their 40s were caught up in the chaos and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“It was extremely fortunate that we didn’t have more patients, and patients with more serious injuries,” Dominic Wong from NSW Ambulance told 9News.

It took 30 firefighters to put out the blaze and then came the time when they were able to pull the hatchback from the back of the burnt-out shop.

Hera Hair has been a Campsie establishment for 15 years and the owner told 9News she was just glad there weren’t more customers sitting in the salon chairs in front of her shop.

The owner’s daughter said this was a devastating blow to an already struggling business.

Why the car lost control is now under investigation.

“It was reported that he was stopped but it is unclear why he accelerated into the store,” Inspector Ryan Shannon from Fire & Rescue NSW told 9News.
