Car ploughs into childcare centre east of Brisbane

Published on

A driver has plowed through the gate of a childcare center east of Brisbane, stopping just inches from the outdoor sandbox.

Emergency services were called to the scene in the Redlands suburb of Alexandra Hills just after 3pm after reports a car had crashed into a fence.

A mother driving into the parking lot made a mistake behind the wheel and crashed through the steel fencing of the Hills Montessori center and came to a stop at the edge of the sandbox, 9News understands.

All children were unharmed, apart from one child who suffered a scratch after falling from the playground equipment.

First responders said it was “very fortunate” no one was seriously injured.

Center owner Rebecca Grugan praised the quick-thinking staff who acted after the crash.

“As soon as I heard about it and knew about it, I was so grateful that it could have been so much worse,” she said.

“It’s that ‘what if’ moment where you just come in and out and I’m so grateful that everything is okay.”

Paramedics assessed the female driver for head injuries, but transport to hospital was not required.
