A childcare worker has been released after allegedly punching two young children in the face at a Sydney centre.
A court heard today that the incident happened while the children were trying to sleep.
It was nap time at Panania Montessori Academy on Friday and Jayendra Shahi allegedly punched two young children in the face.
This afternoon he was released on bail after a night behind bars on two charges of common assault.
The court heard the incident was captured on CCTV footage.
Nine News understands a parent reported the alleged assaults.
The Montessori Academy said: “Immediate action was taken, including dismissing the teacher and reporting the matter to the police and regulatory agency. We have since terminated the teacher’s employment.”
The judge said Shahi was facing very serious charges and the main concern for bail was the safety of the victims.
The 24-year-old was banned from entering a children’s center.
The Nepalese, who hoped for permanent residency, was also forced to surrender his passport.
