Child’s underwear, Jefferson Lewis’ shirt found in search for Alice Springs girl

A pair of children’s underwear believed to belong to Sharon Granites and a shirt worn by her suspected kidnapper have been found, police have revealed. Alice Springs girl is getting more and more desperate.

The five-year-old was put to bed some time before 11pm at the home on Marshall Court where she and her mother had been visiting.

She was last seen in the area, holding hands with Jefferson Lewis at 11:30 p.m. Police believe he led the little girl away from the camp.

Lewis had been released from jail just six days earlier, charged with violent crimes, including assault and domestic violence

Police found the garments on the riverbank at the back of the Old Timers Camp where Sharon was last seen on Sunday, but have only just released their findings.

Northern Territory Assistant Police Commissioner Peter Malley said the shirt found by police is Lewis’s “distinctive” yellow and black shirt, captured on police bodycam footage when officers visited the Old Timers Camp earlier on Saturday on an unrelated matter.

In addition to the clothing, a doona cover was also found

Police are seeking public assistance to locate a 47-year-old man, Mr Jefferson Lewis, who police believe can assist with investigations.

About 100 community volunteers have now joined the hunt for the little girl, which is now in its fourth day.

Malley said no other confirmed sightings or tracks of Sharon or Jefferson Lewis have been found since Sunday.

“This man has no phone, no bank account and no car,” Malley said.

‘We’re going back to 1930s policing without that digital footprint… we’re knocking on doors, we’re going through houses.

“It’s old-fashioned police work and it’s a tough job.”
