Magic Erasers are known for effectively tackling all sorts of cleaning tasks and problems but dirty fabric isn’t typically one of them.
It turns out the melamine sponges do a brilliant job of removing buildup from outdoor cushions as revealed by US woman Michel Janse in an Instagram reel.
Janse had tried many things to get her white cushions looking good as new and nothing had worked until she tried Magic Erasers.

“I’ve discovered the best hack for a Magic Eraser, I love Magic Erasers… this is a cushion from outside,” she says before showing a brown stain along the edge.
She then starts rubbing the damp Magic Eraser on the cushion and you can see the stain quickly lift off.
“It takes some elbow grease… I already Bisselled (spot cleaner for upholstery) this, vacuumed, Bisselled, bleached and then sun bleached and nothing has worked as quickly as this Magic Eraser on Fabric. Why did nobody tell me you can Magic Eraser on fabric?” she said.

Janse finished the video sitting outside using the Magic Eraser on the other cushions.
Those who watched the cleaning transformation were also surprised to find out Magic Erasers cleaned fabric so well.
“I didn’t know this either they truly are magic,” a woman said.
“That is SO satisfying,” one commented.
“I’ll be buying some… thanks for letting me know!!!!” another said.

However, some urged caution given the abrasive nature of melamine sponges.
“Magic erasers are essentially very very very fine grit sandpaper. Don’t use it too much,” one warned.
While an outdoor cushion is likely to be made using a tougher fabric that might be able to take a couple of goes with the product, it’s best to do a patch test first in an inconspicuous area to see if it can withstand the product.
Magic Erasers are available at Coles and Woolworths for $4.65 and can be used for removing marks on walls, canvas shoes and even coffee mugs.
The brand Magic Eraser tends to be the most popular name for the product but melamine sponges can do the same job and are usually cheaper.
