Cleaning tips: The cleaning tools a professional with 20 years experience says are worth the money

Brandon Pleshek has been a professional cleaner for 20 years so if he says a cleaning product is worth the money you know it’s been tried and tested.

The janitor has revealed in a TikTok video the tools and gadgets he believes are “worth buying” and the advice could save you time, effort and cash.

Following the popularity of that clip, which has been watched 1.5 million times, Pleshek has shared even more products he thinks you should be using in a part two video.

Top of Pleshek’s part one list are “good quality” microfibre cloths, which not everyone likes using because of their texture.

“I just feel they do such a good job picking up dirt and things from surfaces,” he said.

Acknowledging the feel of microfibre cloths on the skin is something a lot of people can’t stand, Pleshek recommends wearing gloves while using them and then you won’t have to feel them.

If that doesn’t help he suggests terry cloths or surgical cloths, which he also says “work really well”.

“But if you have good quality cleaning cloths in your cleaning kit it’s just going to make life so much easier,” he said.

In the same video, Pleshek also recommended ”good spray bottles” which can be filled with a DIY cleaning solution or your chosen product.

“Back in the day I’d just go to the Dollar Store and buy the cheapest spray bottles I could, and they’d work for a little while but they’d always start to leak, which makes a bigger mess when you’re trying to clean. The triggers would break and even the nozzle wouldn’t spray as well and you just need something quality that you can rely on so get a good one,” he said.

Also on the professional cleaner’s list is Scrub Daddy and Scrub Mommy sponges, which he said he was skeptical of at first thinking it was a “gimmick” but became a fan after he tried it.

“I bought it in the aisle of a grocery store and I was amazed and hooked from there on because they really do work well,” he said, adding he loves that they go softer in warm water for a gentler scrub.

Rounding out the first list was a drill brush scrubber, which Pleshek said makes cleaning less taxing on the body.

After the success of his cleaning tools recommendations video, the pro cleaner posted a part two clip with more handy tips.

First up is a razor blade scraper, which Pleshek suggests using on shower glass with really heavy buildup because it can get under it and remove it easier than scrubbing.

The razor blade scraper can also be used to clean oven doors.

“There are a few things I like to mention with a razor blade scraper though before you start using it. Number one; always use a new blade – if the blade is rusty or just kind of corroded what’s gonna happen is that will scratch the surface if you keep using it,” he said.

He also advised lubricating the surface you’re using the scraper on to prevent scratches and to go slow and gentle as the blade is enough to get the job done without extra effort.

Cleaning gloves also made the list because it is good hygiene practice to wear them while cleaning and they protect Pleshek’s skin from getting dry on the job.

The video once again proved so popular people are asking for a part three of cleaning product recommendations., so stay tuned.
