Perkins appeared to empathise with Outerbridge’s responsibilities for her child but stressed that her behaviour was inappropriate for a court hearing.

“Miss Outerbridge, I’m sorry that your daughter is sick but again you’re in court and we’re going to treat it as such,” he said.

During the zoom call, Perkins also called out the fact that Outerbridge appeared to be wearing a robe telling her that she needed to be “properly dressed”.

“I don’t do robes,” he said to which Outerbridge responded, “I am properly dressed, I have on a tee-shirt”.

Perkins continued to get more and more frustrated with Outerbridge throughout the Zoom hearing and proceeded to end the hearing.

Outerbridge went viral after the video of her court appearance, which was streamed live on YouTube, was posted to Instagram by Metro Detroit News.

“I definitely was wrong,” Outerbridge admitted to CNN affiliate WWJ in the days following the courtroom sandwich debacle.

“I could have came dressed better and more prepared and I don’t want the judge to think I’m laughing at the situation at hand because I’m not,” she continued.

“I take that very seriously, I do genuinely with a serious face, apologise to the judge.”

Outerbridge, who is a personal stylist, says she knows how to dress appropriately for court but the circumstances made it challenging.

“I’m a personal stylist so I know how to present myself but that day, you know, it’s hard for mums out here. I’m not gonna lie.”
