Discussion with Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, held a meeting today with Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, just ahead of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis.

Following their recent discussions at Palazzo Chigi, today’s encounter served as a platform to reaffirm their commitment to convene a new Italy-Germany intergovernmental summit in Rome at the start of 2026, while also ensuring ongoing collaboration on key EU topics, including the battle against irregular migration and enhancing competitiveness.

Additionally, the meeting facilitated a dialogue on the latest developments in the Middle East and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, all within the framework of transatlantic relations and in anticipation of the forthcoming NATO Summit in The Hague.
