Easter gift ideas: The $6 Kmart buy inspiring a new gift trend for Easter

With the rising price of chocolate, changing tastes and some people being hard to buy for (there’s always one), finding the right gift for Easter can be tricky.

A new trend is making that so much easier by turning large plastic Easter eggs into personalised gift baskets.

Emma from After Hours Gifting has made one particular Kmart buy famous for creating these Easter hampers with a series of TikToks featuring ideas of what to put inside.

The $6 giant gold look egg is designed to be filled with chocolate or treats and hidden in the garden for an Easter egg hunt.

But the egg, which opens in the centre, is also perfect for Easter gift baskets as demonstrated by Emma’s first TikTok featuring a gift idea for a female.

“This gold fillable egg from @kmartaus makes the cutest base for a DIY gift. For this one, I popped in a sheet mask, socks and a mug — perfect for a teenage girl (which I know a lot of you have been asking for!),” she captioned the post.

“I then wrapped it in tissue and ribbon to enhance the presentation.”

The gold eggs are 20cm high and 14cm wide so there’s plenty of room to fit a few bits and pieces for that hard-to-buy-for person in your life or someone who doesn’t like or can’t eat chocolate.

After Hours Gifting followed up the teen girl Easter egg gift hamper with an idea for teen boys after many requests for it.

“I’ve filled it with a t-shirt, socks, sleeping trunks and of course some Easter eggs,” she captioned the post.

And as inspiration for a gift for an adult male Emma suggested a bag of pretzels, a can of ale and some little Easter eggs.

If you prefer a different colour, the fillable egg also comes in a fluffy rainbow version for the same price.

This Easter gift idea is a great way to save on chocolate costs by spreading out a pack of small eggs across gifts with other little trinkets.

You can add in things like hair ties, scrunchies, soap, lip balm, mini alcohol bottles, socks, mugs, makeup, jewellery, pens, stickers and more.

After Hours Gifting’s idea was a huge hit with her followers and has inspired many people to try it themselves.

The idea has already caught on with a mum who posts on the account @itrere sharing a video about what she is thinking about putting in the gold eggs.

“Im obsessed with this idea and for only $6!!!!…THANKYOU @After Hours Gifting for this amazing idea!!!!” she captioned her TikTok.

The comments section of Re’s TikTok showed the trend really is taking off.
