Glass cleaner recipe’s secret ingredient for streak free windows is cornstarch

It can be irritating cleaning your windows only to see streaks remaining, no matter how much you rub.

One mum has found the solution and it’s sitting in an abandoned corner of your pantry.

TJ, a mum and founder of blog Measuring Flower, began experimenting with homemade glass cleaner recipes that leave windows completely streak-free, stumbling upon the surprising ingredient.

She revealed to the Express, “Using the knowledge I had gleaned from experimenting with different glass cleaner recipes, I mixed alcohol, water, and cornstarch. Voila! I think I have found my perfect window cleaner.

“The alcohol disinfects, the cornstarch does something magical to make it streak-free and clear, and the water simply dilutes it.”

As many know, cornstarch is highly absorbent and can remove dirt and moisture on the glass. This way, the cleaning solution alone remains and no residue is left over, thus resulting in no streaks.

But you need to make sure that the solution is concocted properly.

Ensure the 650ml of water you use is cold, so the two tablespoons of cornstarch do not dissolve and turn the mix into a paste.

Make sure to add the cornstarch slowly and mix the solution – including 350ml of isopropyl or ethyl alcohol in a bowl.

Then transfer the solution to a spray bottle and shake well to combine the cornstarch with the liquid whenever needed. Spray on your windows and rub away with a clean cloth to reveal streak-free windows in minutes.

Recipe: 

Step 1: Pour water into a bowl

Step 2: Slowly add in cornstarch and once fully mixed, pour solution into a spray bottle.

Step 3: Add alcohol into bottle, screw on lid and shake to combine.
