GM introduces the fastest Corvette to date, featuring the ZR1X ‘hypercar’ that accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds.

DETROIT — General Motors is set to enhance its Corvette lineup by introducing a new high-performance hybrid variant of the iconic American sports car. On Tuesday, the Detroit automaker unveiled the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X “hypercar” — a boosted version of the Corvette E-Ray hybrid that was launched in 2023. It boasts performance metrics comparable to the current Corvette ZR1, featuring a twin-turbo V-8 engine, but offers quicker acceleration due to “electrification” technologies. “It is the most advanced Corvette we’ve ever produced. America’s true hypercar has arrived,” stated Megan Dalley, Corvette marketing manager, during a press event. “We are putting the world on notice with this car, showcasing what Corvette and America’s true supercar can achieve.” A “hypercar” is viewed as a level above a “supercar,” distinguished by performance factors such as speed, acceleration, and 0-60 mph times. Both classifications exceed traditional “sports cars.”

DETROIT — General Motors is set to enhance its Corvette lineup by introducing a new high-performance hybrid variant of the iconic American sports car.

“We are putting the world on notice with this car, showcasing what Corvette and America’s true supercar can achieve.”

A “hypercar” is viewed as a level above a “supercar,” distinguished by performance factors such as speed, acceleration, and 0-60 mph times. Both classifications exceed traditional “sports cars.”
The Corvette ZR1X boasts an impressive top speed of 233 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds, as reported by GM. Its powerful LT7 twin-turbo V-8 engine, shared with the ZR1 models, delivers an astonishing 1,064 horsepower and 828 foot-pounds of torque. Enhancing the performance further, the ZR1X features an electric axle that provides all-wheel drive capabilities, contributing an additional 186 horsepower and 145 foot-pounds of torque, according to the manufacturer.

“It combines electrification, performance, and all-wheel drive to elevate the extraordinary ZR1,” explained Josh Holder, the chief engineer of Corvette. “This model integrates insights from both the ZR1 and the E-Ray, resulting in an unparalleled driving experience.”

With the introduction of the ZR1X, Corvette’s lineup expands to five distinct models, marking its most extensive range since its inception in 1953. This aligns with the automaker’s strategy for a lucrative “Corvette family,” which spans from the accessible Corvette Stingray, starting at around $70,000, to the high-end ZR1, which can exceed $200,000.

“Corvette remains a highly profitable vehicle for the company, reinforcing our status as the leader in performance,” stated Dalley.
