Gold Logie nominations: Women dominate 2025 gold logie nominations proving slowly changing tide in Australian TV industry

One standout detail in this year’s Gold Logie nominations list stands to prove a slowly changing tide in the Australian TV industry.

Of the seven Australian TV stars nominated for the coveted honour, six were women and only one was a man.

Nine’s own Hamish Blake is the only male nominee for the Gold this year. He is nominated alongside Nine’s Ally Langdon as well as Julia Morris, Lisa Millar, Lynne McGranger, Poh Ling Yeow and Sonia Kruger.

It’s a record number of female nominees and marks the first time only one man has been nominated in over two decades.

The last time the list featured only one male nominee was back in 2001, when Blue Heelers‘ John Wood was nominated alongside Georgie Parker (who won the Gold Logie that year), Lisa McCune, Sigrid Thornton and Ada Nicodemou.

Is it understood at least one man has been nominated for the Gold Logie every year since the award show began in 1959.

The same can’t be said for the women.

On at least two occasions in Logies history, women were left off the list entirely with the the nominations going exclusively to men.

In 1994, Ray Martin, Gary Sweet, Dieter Brummer and Daryl Somers were the only four nominees. Seven years earlier, in 1987, Daryl Somers, Greg Evans and Ray Martin were the only nominees.

Meanwhile, in the 66 years the Logies has been running, 16 women have won the Gold Logie.

In the last 15 years, only three have won – Kruger in 2023, Carrie Bickmore in 2015 and Asher Keddie in 2013.

With women dominating the list this year, it is likely the Gold Logie win will go to one of the six talented female nominees – and it’s something Blake is rooting for.

“This year, we almost had what would have, I think, in this day and age been a wonderful statement for how far we’ve come and we could come as an industry and a society,” Blake said in conversation on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie this morning.

“And there’s just one guy just resisting that wonderful cultural moment we could have had.

“That’s why I don’t think we need to reward that guy who already has two of them by giving him another Gold.”

Earlier in the conversation, the Lego Masters host joked that he “cannot win”.

“I’m a dog, and if anyone votes for me then they are a dog and they just want to see me deal with a PR nightmare,” he said.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had this before in the history of the Logies … I’m just saying may the best woman win, and I reckon it’s a great honour to be in the group.”

While historic Logies nominations and wins are still skewed towards men in the industry, this year’s list shows a hopeful shift towards gender equality in Australian media.

The Australian TV industry has long been a male-dominated industry but that is slowly changing.

In recent years, the Australian screen industry has been actively working towards greater gender equity with initiatives like Screen Australia’s Gender Matters program aiming to increase the representation of women across the industry.

But while the number of women in the media industry has increased, there is still a while to go for gender true gender parity.

According to Women In Media’s 2025 Industry Insight report, ”Women make up 49 per cent of the media workforce but hold only 30 per cent of Chief Executive and Managing Director roles”.

The report also reveals a significant gender pay gap remains in the industry averaging at around 10 per cent.

While there is still much to be done for women in media – and for several minority groups – this year’s Gold Logie nominations list is a beacon of hope.
