‘Grotesque’: JFK. Jr’s nephew speaks out on Ryan Murphy’s upcoming biopic series American Love Story

A member of the Kennedy family has spoken out about Ryan Murphy’s upcoming TV series, American Love Story.

The show is set to tell the tragic love story of the late John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bassette-Kennedy, but according to JFK Jr.’s nephew, Jack Schlossberg, he claimed the family were not consulted regarding the show’s creation.

Schlossberg – the son of JFK Jr.’s sister Caroline Kennedy – took to his Instagram stories to label the use of his uncle’s story for profit as “grotesque”.

“Lately, my news feed has been filled with pictures of my uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., a great man,” he began.

“For those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with, the new shows being made about him, the answer is no. And there’s really not much we can do.”

Schlossberg then explained that in New York state, the right to privacy “doesn’t survive death” meaning that he and his family do not have the right to control JFK Jr.’s name, image or likeness.

“For that matter, he’s considered a public figure, so there’s not much we can do,” he added.

“I hope those making these shows about him take seriously what he stood for in his life, all that he achieved in it. And that they donate some of the profits [that] they’re making.

“For the record, I think admiration for my Uncle John is great. What I don’t think is great is profiting off of it in a grotesque way.”

9honey has reached out to Ryan Murphy for comment, in relation to this story.

American Love Story is the latest controversial TV show to be created by Ryan Murphy, fresh off the back of his Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which followed the story of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of killing their parents.

American Love Story will spotlight the tragic love story of the late JFK Jr., the son of John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy, and his wife Carolyn Bessette, a fashion publicist.

After meeting in 1992, the pair tied the knot in September 1996.

They were married just short of three years when they died in a plane crash as JFK. Jr was flying Bessette and her sister to Martha’s Vineyard.
