Gunmen attack building housing Israeli consulate in Istanbul

The report said attackers were carrying long-barreled weapons on Tuesday morning (evening AEST).

A shootout with police left two people dead, while a third attacker was captured. One officer was injured in the collision.

The area around the building was quickly closed off.

There was no immediate information about the identity of the attackers or what their motives may have been.

Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said an investigation had been launched.

Haberturk said the consulate occupies one or two floors in the high-rise building.
