How to remove makeup stains from clothes: The $2 shaving foam hack you need to know

Nothing ruins a brand new white shirt quite like a tiny foundation mark on the collar.

A makeup stain on your favourite top can cause an instant panic – especially when you keep scrubbing at it with wet wipes to no avail.

It turns out there’s a tried and tested hack to remove a makeup stain without even needing to chuck your clothing in the wash.

The magic solution? A common $2 toiletry.

Rather than reaching for soap, all you need is a squirt of shaving foam.

You can buy a bottle of shaving foam for as low as $2.30 at Woolworths and $3 at Coles.

According to a fashion stylist on TikTok, the toiletry can get rid of “new and old” makeup stains from your clothes “in minutes”.

The guru, whose name is Becca, explains the shaving cream lifts the stain from the fabric by breaking up the oils in the makeup.

The hack works by first applying shaving foam directly to the mark on your clothes. Then scrub at the stain, using a utensil like a toothbrush.

“I would suggest leaving it there for 10 minutes before you get to work,” the stylist says.

After applying water and more shaving foam, rinse it all off and voila!

The clothing should look “brand new” and ready to wear out for the day.

TikToker Chantel Mila said makeup artists “swear by” shaving cream as a stain remover.

She noted you can use a brush or cloth to remove the foam.

“You can see the stain reducing instantly,” she wrote on the video.

Another TikToker shared they use shaving foam to remove makeup stains from coats.

The hack even comes endorsed by an A-list celebrity.

How to remove the common stains from clothing and bedding

Back in 2017, Kim Kardashian revealed in a post to her app that shaving cream “often does the trick” to get makeup stains out of her clothes.

“Just apply to the stain and then lightly wet or wash. If the stain still won’t come out, you can use a drop of rubbing alcohol mixed in with the shaving cream,” she suggested, per Business Insider.

“The stain should lift out easily.”
