The Princess of Wales has worn an outfit that bears a near-identical resemblance to one worn by her late mother-in-law, Diana, decades earlier at Trooping the Colour.
Catherine chose a Catherine Walker coat dress in a hue described by the British brand as “deep aquamarine” featuring white cuffs, a white collar and white detailing down the front.
The 43-year-old added a wide-brimmed hat by Juliette Botterill in the same colour.

At the same event in 1988 Diana, Princess of Wales wore a coat dress – also by Catherine Walker – in green, featuring similar white detailing down the front and on the cuffs, together with a matching Philip Somerville hat.
That year saw Diana ride in a carriage with a young Prince William and the Queen Mother.
Later, when on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, Prince Harry stole the show by poking out his tongue much to the delight of the photographers capturing the spectacle.
Prince Harry was three-years-old at the time.

He wore a pair of green shorts and matching braces, with a white shirt underneath, the colours closely matching his mother’s outfit.
So too did Princess Charlotte on Saturday, who wore a turquoise dress with a white belt, mirroring Kate’s look.
The current Princess of Wales, like Diana did in 1988, also wore pearls to accessorise her outfit, choosing the late Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond and pearl Bahrain earrings.

The earrings were also loaned to Diana throughout her life by the late monarch.
Pinned to Kate’s coat dress was the Irish Guards Regimental Brooch. The princess has been colonel of the Irish Guards since 2022, taking over from her husband Prince William.
Even thought Kate and Diana never met, the two women have been compared endlessly due to their shared sense of style.

The Princess of Wales has worn many outfits that bear resemblance to those worn during Diana’s royal career at some of the biggest events including Trooping the Colour, Royal Ascot, Commonwealth Day and Christmas at Sandringham.
Kate also wears some of Diana’s most famous jewels including her sapphire and diamond engagement ring, the Collingwood pearl earrings and Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara.
The Princess of Wales watched the military parade during this year’s Trooping the Colour from the dais at the Horse Guards Parade, sitting next to King Charles.

Kate was there in her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards and took the same position on the dais in 2023.
In 2024, due to her cancer treatment, the princess, alongside her children, watched the parade from a window of the Duke of Wellington’s former office nearby.
It is the third time Trooping the Colour has been held in King Charles III’s honour, following his succession to the throne in September 2022.
