King Charles and David Beckham unite at Chelsea Flower Show amid family rift comparisons

King Charles and David Beckham have done little to stop chatter about the separate feuds engulfing both their families as they appeared together at an event in London.

The monarch and football star joined forces to visit the Chelsea Flower Show, where King Charles saw for the first time a new rose named in his honour.

And in a major show of support for Charles, Beckham wore the new flower – the King’s Rose – in the button hole of his suit.

The pink-and-white bloom was created by David Austin Roses in collaboration with the King’s Foundation.

Beckham was last year named an ambassador of the charity and has become increasingly close to the royals ever since.

He and his wife Victoria attended their first state banquet at Buckingham Palace in December and in October, the footballer joined Prince William to celebrate the purchase of two new helicopters for London’s air ambulance service through fundraising efforts.

In February, the couple were among the King’s guests at a black tie dinner at Highgrove to celebrate Anglo-Italian relations and the month before, Victoria was invited to Buckingham Palace for a Women of the World event hosted by Queen Camilla.

In recent weeks, however, the Beckhams and Windsors have found themselves at the centre of headlines focusing around two separate family feuds.

Comparisons between the family rifts have been made because of similarities between the two: the King hasn’t spoken to his youngest son Prince Harry for 15 months, while David and Victoria are said to be estranged from their eldest son, Brooklyn.

Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, were recently guests at a party in Montecito, attended by Prince Harry and Meghan.

The two couples were said to have found “common ground” over the situation, with Meghan and Nicola, who are both American, blamed for breaking up Britain’s most famous families.

The source told The Telegraph UK the young couple had “found Harry and Meghan to be particularly kind, caring and generous” at the dinner.

Monday’s outing to the Chelsea Flower Show, in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, was Beckham’s first and he spent time with both King Charles and Queen Camilla.

“It’s so beautiful, so beautiful, congratulations,” Beckham said of the King’s Rose. Proceeds from the sale of the rose will be donated to the King’s Foundation.

Beckham is also supporting the launch of a joint initiative to encourage more young people to work in horticulture, which will be run by the charity and launched later this year.

Also at the show on Monday, Queen Camilla visited a dog-friendly garden that features the names of her three dogs Beth, Bluebell and new addition Moley.

The name of King’s dog, Snuff, is also included on a path within the garden.

Yesterday the Queen shared the first photo of Moley since the pup’s adoption last year.

Camilla rescued Moley from the Battersea Dogs and Cats home, of which she is patron.

Beth and Bluebell were also adopted from the home in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

In November, Beth passed away from an untreatable tumour and the Queen soon adopted Moley.

She previously revealed the decision behind Moley’s name: ”It’s called Moley, looks just like a mole”.

During the King and Queen’s visit, Charles carried a traditional country fair walking stick, one of many in his large collection of crooks.
