So there’ll be some celebrations to be had for the longtime couple, who wed on April 9, 2005.
While the pair have been married for 20 years, their love story spans more than 50 years – filled with ups and downs, which once had Camilla labelled “the world’s most hated woman”.
Then-Prince Charles first met Camilla Shand when he was 22 and she was 24, at a polo match at Windsor Great Park in 1970. It’s believed they started dating soon after.
The couple split when Prince Charles left for an eight-month tour in the Caribbean as part of his Navy duties in 1972.
In the time Charles was out to sea, Camilla accepted a proposal from Andrew Parker Bowles and went on to marry him in 1973 and they have two children together – Tom and Laura.
While it raised some eyebrows at the time, Charles was asked by the couple to be godfather to their son, when he was born in December 1974, which he accepted.
Charles and Camilla remained friends until their romantic attachment led to an affair.
It’s understood the couple’s first affair came before Prince Charles married Princess Diana in 1981, with a second affair taking place during their marriage.
The affair became public after a transcript of a recorded phone call between Charles and Camilla was published in 1993, which became known as Tampongate.
“There were three of us in this marriage,” Princess Diana famously told Martin Bashir of her relationship breakdown in 1995.
Following Princess Diana’s 1997 death, Prince Charles and Camilla kept their relationship low profile until he threw Camilla a 50th birthday party at London’s The Ritz in 1999, marking their first public appearance together.
They officially moved in together at Clarence House in August 2003 before tying the knot in April 2005 in a low-key, non-religious ceremony (as the pair were both divorcees).
Camilla took on the title Duchess of Cornwall, so as to not take Diana’s former Princess of Wales title, and kept her head down – focused on the job at hand.

A look back at the wedding of Charles and Camilla
Following 17 years of dedicated service to crown and country, Camilla’s mother-in-law, the late Queen Elizabeth, publicly requested Camilla be named Queen Consort “when that time comes” – something once thought impossible.
In the years since King Charles’ coronation in 2023, Queen Camilla has continued to stand by her husband’s side and put royal duties above all else.
Even in the firestorm of Prince Harry’s autobiography, Spare, in which there were some sections directly discussing his step-mother, Her Majesty kept up her mother-in-law’s mantra of “never complain, never explain”.
