A make-up artist has found a cost-saving alternative to a high-end brand Makeup by Mariorevealing a brush set that can achieve the same results at a fraction of the price.
Asha Jeffrey went to TikTok to provide a candid comparison of Kmart’s OXX Cosmetics five-piece dual-ended ultimate brush set, and Makeup By Mario’s acclaimed $72 F4 foundation brush.
She immediately praised the density of the Kmart variety and its similarity to the original product, but admitted that it took two brushes from the set to replicate the results of one Makeup By Mario brush.

She said the double-ended brushes differed slightly in that they were tapered, while the Makeup By Mario product had slightly longer bristles.
However, a second, smaller brush in Kmart’s five-piece set showed a similar taper to the more expensive product, meaning a combination of the two brushes served the same purpose.
“To trick this, you need both of these,” Jeffreys said
She also added that while the brushes were a good alternative, she somewhat preferred the flexibility of the Makeup By Mario option over the denser Kmart brush.

“Essentially you get the same result, but the experience is different,” she admitted.
The makeup artist went on to say that the set was worth it — especially since the Kmart package included five brushes for $25, while Makeup By Mario cost $72 for one brush.
“I feel like I got a pretty good deal on that,” she said. “It’s about what’s valuable to you.”

The makeup artist also recommended other similar Morphe alternatives available in Mecca, calling them her “go-to” at a relatively cheap price.
In particular, the $26 Morphe M103 Cream and Liquid Foundation Brush has a similar tapered design to Makeup By Mario and its Kmart dupe.
Speak with nine.com.auJeffreys revealed some techniques that can help achieve a flawless finish – even with cheap brushes as your tools of choice.
“For the face, I learned to make a tapping motion instead of wiping.” She revealed.
She also added that the key to getting the best results from your brushes is keeping them clean and knowing which brush to pair with which product.
“Use synthetic fibers for liquids and creams, and fibers that mimic natural hair for dry products (i.e. powders).”
Australian brand Saint Jack’s brush cleaner came highly recommended for cleaning post-use stains, available in both a 200ml size for $38 and 800ml for $68.
For best results, it is recommended to clean your makeup brushes biweekly
