Kmart buy: The $29 Kmart buy a shopper says ‘saved us thousands’ on a home essential

A Kmart buy is proving a hit with shoppers wanting to save money on what can be an expensive home essential.

Sheer curtains are a must for privacy and filtering sunlight in rooms that either don’t have blinds or have roller blinds.

But getting them professionally installed can be pricey with many quoted more than $1000 to get the job done.

The Sicily S-fold long curtains from Kmart are $29 each and the matching 140cm curtain track is $20.

Mrs Gillick is the latest shopper to post a video on TikTok showing how good the curtains look in her living room.

“Sicily S-Fold Long curtains for the win!! These have saved us thousands!!” she captioned the post.

Those who watched Mrs Gillick’s video thought the curtains were gorgeous.

“Looks stunning,” one said.

“Pretty,” another commented.

It was a similar story for Shannyn, who revealed in her own TikTok video that she was quoted “$1300 to do floor-to-ceiling sheers for our master bedroom”.

Instead she and her husband installed four curtain tracks and four Sicily S-fold sheer curtains for under $200.

In the comments section of Shannyn’s video others mentioned they were also quoted more than $1000 for installing curtains and found cheaper options elsewhere.

“Same here! They wanted $1200 for one window! I went to IKEA and brought the rods and shears (they have a huge range) and we did the whole house for about $600! That was rods and shears for every window in the house! Crazy!” one said.

“I have these Kmart ones, the freedom ones and also sheer curtains we made. The ones we made ourself with spotlight fabric were the cheapest and look the best, but if you ever want to upgrade the freedom ones are super great too,” a woman commented.

Another common theme in the comment section was whether these curtains are renter-friendly.

Unfortunately these do need to be mounted on the ceiling, which means they aren’t renter-friendly but you can always try asking your property manager or landlord for permission.

However, there are other Sicily curtains available at Kmart with different top styles so if you’re in a rental and can only use a tension rod or a curtain rod on Command Hooks you can still get a similar look, it just won’t be floor to ceiling.

The Sicily S-fold curtains have been a huge hit since they arrived in stores with a five star rating on the Kmart website.

“Great product. easy to use and hang. was very long but easy to hem,” a woman said in a review.

“The curtains are stunning, it was the track I had issues with. Just couldn’t get them to sit straight. Then as if by magic it settled all by itself and they look perfect. This is an amazing price for such beautiful curtains,” one wrote.

“I wanted some ner curtains for my dining room. These are perfect and such good quality,” another said.
