Kyle Chalmers and Ingeborg Løyning relationship: How they met, engagement and everything we know about their love story | From their ‘secret’ relationship to engagement and first child on the way

With one picture, Aussie swim star Kyle Chalmers has dropped a major life update that had nothing to do with his career in the pool.

Holding up a photo of an ultrasound, the Olympic champion, 26, announced his next life adventure with a beaming smile plastered to his face: he’s going to be a dad!

“We can’t wait to welcome our little Norwegian princess into the world later this year,” his fiancée, Norwegian swimmer Ingeborg Løyning, 24, captioned the joint post.

Over the past couple of years, the world has caught glimpses of a photo here and there of Chalmers and Løyning’s love story unfolding in real time.

They’ve shared poolside snaps, engagement glee, and now news of a baby on the way.

But the couple have kept the details of their relationship largely under lock and key.

In fact, it took them a year to even confirm they were dating.

Ahead of the Commonwealth Games, Chalmers found himself in a public speculated love triangle between him, ex Emma McKeon, and her new beau Cody Simpson. 

Fast forward to March 2023 when Løyning relocated to Adelaide for training.

The Norwegian native reportedly first met Chalmers through their mutual sport. 

Then, months after her move, Løyning finally addressed speculation she had struck up a romance with the Aussie swimmer with just five words.

“Yes, we are a couple,” she told outlet TV 2 in December 2023.

“We have been there for quite some time, since around December,” she added, spilling that they had managed to keep their romance under wraps for a whole year.

“That is not the whole reason, but one of the reasons why I went down to train in Australia.”

Weeks after his girlfriend let the cat out of the bag, Chalmers confirmed their relationship in the most modern way you can: by going Instagram official.

The Aussie athlete shared photos to his Instagram Story of him and Løyning celebrating Christmas together in her native Norway.

Just six months after confirming their relationship, the pair had more news: they were not only still dating but they were engaged!

From swimming to soccer: The ‘power couples’ of Aussie sport

The swimmers dropped their surprise engagement news to social media in June 2024 with a heartwarming photoshoot and a single infinity emoji to clue-in that this was a forever kind of love.

With a ring on their relationship, the pair travelled to Paris together for the Olympics.

Løyning was there cheering Chalmers from the front-row of the crowd when he took home a silver medal for the 100m men’s freestyle final.

“An extreme level of resilience, determination, grit & humility comes together in one single individual ✨” she gushed about her fiancé’s achievement to Instagram.

“@kyle_chalmers3 in awe of you, on and off pool deck, showing me every day that hard work and the right mindset makes anything possible! Thank you x.”

Chalmers dropped three special words in the comments in response: “I love you.”

Now the couple are embarking on their next relationship milestone as soon-to-be first-time parents to a little girl.
