Man proposes to girlfriend as she crosses marathon finish line but the romantic gesture divides online

As Sarah John crossed the finish line of the Wales marathon, an unexpected surprise awaited her.

As the runner finished the race she was greeted by her boyfriend, who used the occasion to propose.

In a heartwarming moment, the unique proposal location has been met with mixed emotions online.

John completed three major days of exercise, competing in The Long Course weekend, which involved a 3.8km swim, a 180km cycle, and a 42km run.

The marathon took place at the Pembrokeshire festival. At the end of a mammoth effort, the fitness enthusiast was met by her future husband, Tom.

The groom-to-be was poised on one knee as Tom got to the finish line, which prompted the fitness enthusiast to bury her head in her hands before exclaiming, “Yes.”

There is no denying that John was overjoyed by her partner’s choice of proposal location, though not everyone online was as enthusiastic.

Last week, John (@sarahjohn69) posted a video of the moment on TikTok, with her video quickly going viral and amassing a whopping 2.2 million views.

John captioned her clip, “No, I’m still not over this incredible moment💍🏃🏻‍♀️,” prompting hundreds of viewers to flood the comment section of her post with their thoughts.

“Hmmm… should’ve let her have her moment to reflect and celebrate HER achievement, that proposal could’ve waited another day! 🙄,” another added.

One viewer shared, “Definitely should’ve saved this proposal for another day, totally stole her moment ☹️,” to which John replied, “Sorry Julia, I forgot that you strangers on the internet know me better than my partner😂😂.”

Other viewers were more encouraging, adding, “He stole her moment? Guys he actually made it even more special moment.”

John replied, explaining: “Exactly!! These strangers seem to think they know me better than my partner😂 when in fact anyone who knows me would know that this is the most perfect proposal for me🥰.”
