Meghan Markle news: Duchess of Sussex lashed for ‘over-the-top’ security detail at Broadway show in New York

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is revealed to have made a surprise trip to New York City to see the sights, in particular visiting Broadway.

While her husband Prince Harry made a surprise trip to Ukraine to visit war victims, the royal dropped by the Majestic Theatre to catch a performance of the musical Gypsy, also meeting the cast and crew afterward.

She gushed about the musical on Instagram, sharing snaps from the night.

“If you get a chance to see @gypsybway, you absolutely must,” she told her fans, “Congratulations to the tremendously talented cast and crew for creating magic on that stage.”

The 43-year-old was particularly starstruck by Broadway star Audra McDonald, sharing, “And meeting @audramcdonald for the first time last night…. Her performance will leave you absolutely speechless. Full body chills. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house, and if the theater didn’t have to close for the night, the standing ovation would still be happening.”

Meghan’s life on Instagram: all her best posts so far

The first photo she shared was a black and white one of her embracing McDonald, with the others showing her interacting with child cast members and even a group shot. She also included a video of her speaking with a starstruck child before ending the compilation with another photo of her and McDonald hugging.

The mother of two chose a chic black shirt to wear over a stylish Carolina Herrera houndstooth pencil skirt.

But trouble was brewing outside the venue, where Meghan had reportedly enlisted three SUVs and an unmarked police car to protect her while at the show.

According to Page Six, the Duchess of Sussex had hired former Secret Service agents as part of her private security team, and that the unmarked vehicle had two New York Police Department detectives in it.

The outlet was told that the royal only rode in one of the SUVs while the other two were decoys, which could be used to send photographers on a wild goose chase if needed.

A paparazzi source told the outlet that this is abnormal for celebrities, with people such as Taylor Swift only having two cars – one for herself and one for her team.

“Meghan is out of control and over-the-top, and it’s ridiculous if the city is paying for this,” the source said.

One of the last times Meghan was in New York, she and her husband Prince Harry claimed they were pursued by paparazzi in a “near catastrophic” car chase after leaving the Women of Vision Awards in May 2023.

The NYPD have since conceded that the couple were “recklessly” pursued by the paparazzi.
