Meghan Markle news: Tina Knowles Confessions of a Female Founder podcast for advice on working with your daughter
Meghan Markle asked Tina Knowles for advice about working with your daughter, during a bonus episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder.
Tina, 71, and daughter Beyoncé launched a haircare range called Cécred in 2024, having spoken about the idea “for years”.
The duchess told Tina she was fascinated by the matriarch “working directly with your daughter”.

Tina revealed the idea for the hair care range came from constant conversations about Beyoncé’s hair.
“People always ask her, because they don’t know when she has her hair or she has a wig on. A lot of the time people say, ‘Well, she wears wigs all the time’. But a lot of the time it’s her hair,” Tina explained.
“So she wanted to share that secret with other people that are going through similar things.”
Tina ran a hair salon while her daughters Beyoncé and Solange were young, and hair care has always been top of mind in her family.

She also refers to Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland as her daughter.
Kelly moved in with the Knowles family when she was 11.
“You’re working directly with Beyoncé on this and you’ve worked with the girls for years,” Meghan said.
“But this is a different type of endeavour.”
The royal is mum to Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, who will turn four on June 4, with husband Prince Harry.
“I wonder if one day I’ll be in business with Lili and we’ll be building something,” she said.
Meghan also asked Tina for advice for “people really digging into business together in that way, especially as mother and daughter”.
“There are difficulties sometimes because you’re dealing with your child or they’re dealing with their mother, you have disagreements and you have to… I’m the one to always cave,” Tina shared.
“I’ve been like that since I was young. If my kids are mad at me, I can’t take it. So I’ll cave, I’ll apologise.”
Tina added being close to her kids is her “priority”.
“So we have disagreements about things but, it’s her business, so she gets to win because it’s her business,” she said.
She said it’s ultimately about “trust”.
“Because I trust her, she’s just such a savvy business person, and she knows so much about hair,” Tina said.
Beyoncé also has a lot of trust in Tina, who recalled that her daughter backed her when she proposed to build an office and test lab in one location, which a lot of people had doubts about.
“So she trusts me on things and I trust her. That’s really important,” Tina added.
Tina spoke of her past struggle to balance work and motherhood, saying it is important to treat children “as individuals”.
Meghan asked how a working mum can do that.
Tina explained she would ensure her children would have a day each week when they were the focus.

“Solange needed her own day. So we called it Solange’s Day. On Wednesdays, that was her day and I just did something with her by herself, because she needed that,” she explained.
“Beyoncé didn’t need that. She was fine either way because she was all into her own little world of music and entertaining … and so you have to know what your kid’s needs are.”
Tina also admitted she didn’t take the time to look after herself and urges women to take that time, including “date night with your husband”, to which Meghan said, “Completely!”

Meghan commented that being a mum in many ways “is like being an entrepreneur because you are creating a building every day … your family and what you’re creating and working on every single day …”
Tina warned you don’t get a “do over” with your children, where as you do in business.
The podcast ended with Meghan reminding herself to “just take a minute to breathe” and make time for the dates.
“We have a date night tonight,” she shared.
