Meghan Markle reveals hidden talent during latest podcast episode

Meghan Markle is known as a whizz in the kitchen and a guru around the house thanks to her new Netflix series With Love, Meghan.

Now, the royal-turned-podcaster has revealed she’s also a dab hand with a sewing machine.

The secret skill came while chatting with Heather Hasson, the founder of FIGS, on the latest episode of Confessions of a Female Founder, released on Tuesday.

Hasson’s company “completely revolutionised the medical apparel industry” according to Meghan’s description of FIGS.

As they explored the company’s humble beginnings, Hasson admitted she hired a tailor because her sewing skills weren’t up to scratch.

“I can sew, but not well, enough to mend something,” Meghan told her guest.

But just moments later, the 43-year-old suggested she might be a little better at it than that.

“I couldn’t sew 10 sets of scrubs without a pattern, I don’t think,” she added, with a tone that suggested she might be OK to put them together with a pattern.

“I was a theatre major, and part of the program was that you couldn’t just do the acting,” she said of her time at Northwestern University.

“You had to do soup to nuts, every part of what a production would entail, which I actually think is incredible training for when you’re running a team because you appreciate what the sound person does and what the lighting person does.”

The former actress’s dad, Thomas Markle, was an award-winning Hollywood lighting director but she didn’t linger on the subject or mention him.

“The wardrobe department and sewing were part of it too, so I am comfortable with a sewing machine,” she said.

“I see vegetables and I see take-out – because I don’t have time to cook every day – and I go ‘all right, but how do I still make this flattering and beautiful and present well and something that people find appetising’,” she said.

During an episode of her With Love, Meghan series, the mum-of-two spoke to actress Mindy Kaling about growing up on a diet of American takeaway meals as her mum Doria juggled work with being a single mum.
