Mother’s Day is the biggest day in Australia when it comes to flower sales, easily usurping Valentine’s Day.
And this year, supermarkets have upped their game when it comes to choices of blooms for mum.
Coles and Woolworths each report expected sales of half a million flowers, which Coles reports is enough to stretch from Melbourne to New Zealand!
And it’s the chrysanthemum that are the most popular flower for Mother’s Day, followed by roses.

I spoke with Coles, Woolworths and Aldi about what they have on offer for Mother’s Day.
Coles
Coles reports heading into the biggest Mother’s Day ever when it comes to flowers.
The supermarket chain is expecting a 20 per cent increase in sales, owing to a new range of stunning selections.

Coles’ Chief Customer Officer, Amanda McVay explained the increase in expected sales.
“This year we’re expecting to see record demand for flowers, and we’re very excited to unveil an expertly and thoughtfully curated collection of bespoke floral arrangements designed to delight mums of all kinds, and the Coles customers shopping for them,” McVay said.
Coles has this year partnered with florist Lynn Dallas from Smith St Flowers, who has curated the range, which starts at $15.
“The 2025 range offers something for every budget, featuring an array of handcrafted bouquets in various sizes,” Dallas said.
“From blooms perfect for DIY flower enthusiasts to show-stopping ready-made arrangements destined for the dining table, the collection is all about beauty and versatility.”
Coles most popular flower arrangement this year is the Beautiful Bouquet which costs $30 and is a mix of chrysanthemums and roses.

Smith St Flowers expects to sell 90,000 of these stunning bouquets alone this Mother’s Day.
Coles has also discounted its popular mud cake range this Mother’s Day, down from $6.60 to just $5.90 until May 13.
These include chocolate and caramel as well as white chocolate varieties.
Woolworths

Woolworths Buyer for floral, David Nimmo, confirmed the Mother’s Day weekend is the store’s “biggest time of the year for flower sales”.
“Over half a million flowers are expected to sell over the Mother’s Day weekend,” he added, which is double the amount sold on Valentine’s Day.
Most Mother’s Day flowers will be purchased on Saturday at Woolies between 9am and 11am and they start from as little as $12.

Woolworths is also selling sweet treats for Mother’s Day gatherings including the Woolworths’ Carrot Cake Cheesecake $22 which is large enough to share with the whole family.
Or families may choose the Chocolate and Caramel Cake for a more affordable $8.50, which will be among a number of other sweet treats including cupcakes and macarons.

Aldi
Aldi is also selling flowers for Mother’s Day with displays set up in stores ahead of Sunday.
“Aldi’s flowers are always a hit with our customers, whether it’s for a bouquet at home or a little gift,” an Aldi spokesperson said.

“This year, we’re excited about our special Mother’s Day collection, packed with gorgeous blooms at prices that won’t break the bank,” they said.

Flowers on offer will include tulips for $15 as well as a small variety bouquet from $15. Larger bouquets will sell for $25-$35.
And a tip about Aldi flowers: They regularly sell ones that are yet to bloom. What might look like sad bouquets become spectacular arrangements when they bloom before your eyes.
Also on sale at Aldi this Mother’s Day are a range of chocolates, including Darrell Lea Mixed Raspberry Bullets, Baileys Chocolate Truffles, Guylian Temptations, Darrell Lea Rocklea Road, Cadbury Roses, Mars Maltesers and Toblerone, priced at $7.75-$14.99.
