There are plenty of parts of motherhood people don’t talk about, but one mum is being praised for sharing a very candid admission on TikTok.
Imogen recently welcomed her second bub, and admitted it’s taken her a few weeks to actually ‘love’ her.
The clip, which has been watched over 3.2 million times, has been applauded for sharing a side of being a new mum that isn’t talked about often – but there are some people who have taken issue with Imogen’s confession.

“I finally love my daughter,” she captioned the video.
“I’m not one of those people who gives birth to a child and loves them immediately,” she explained.
“It takes me a little bit of time.”
Any woman who’s been pregnant will tell you they heard about this incredible rush of love you’ll get when you hold your baby for the first time, but Imogen admitted it hasn’t happened to her.
“I don’t get that instant rush of ‘I love you, you’re the most amazing thing ever’,” she said.
“I get the instant rush of ‘I’ve got to keep you alive otherwise I’m done for murder,’ sort of thing.”

A lot of people thanked her for being so honest about her feelings and sharing a taboo part of motherhood not often talked about. (TikTok/@imogencoles)
Imogen cradled her daughter in the clip and said that at four, almost five weeks old, things have changed.
“We finally love you,” she said, directing it at her daughter.
“So that’s good, isn’t it?”
She said it took even longer for this to happen with her son, admitting it was around the six-week mark that it happened with her firstborn.
“But I don’t know, today I’m feeling all sorts of squishy for her,” she said in the video.

The post was taken well by a lot of people who thanked her for sharing a side of motherhood that isn’t often talked about.
“Let’s normalize this lol because honestly it’s not that odd,” replied one woman.
Another person commented, “The side of motherhood they never show.”
“This is completely normal and I’m tired of people pretending it’s not,” added another.

But while there was a mostly positive reaction to the honest admission, others criticised the admission as being ‘weird’ and ‘sad’.
“People who are getting offended need to realise it’s common it’s just not spoke about because of the reaction it gets,” replied one person.
The response proves that while so many people can understand her feelings and support it, there’s always going to be a taboo surrounding the negatives of motherhood.
