Mum’s hack to trick kids into eating healthy homemade food is it serve it out of takeaway containers

Some mum hacks are clever, others are pure genius.

This one falls into the latter category.

Alex MacLaren, a parenting and food influencer, has taken to TikTok to share the simple hack she uses to trick her kids into eating homemade food and you’re about to wonder why you didn’t think of this one yourself.

In the clip, Maclaren begins unboxing takeaway containers from a paper bag.

”We ordered in food, it’s an Italian place,” she told her kids.

But the plot twist? The food wasn’t from an Italian place. It hadn’t even been ordered in.

What MacLaren was pulling out of the paper bag was the homemade food she had cooked, placed into takeaway containers, put into a brown bag, and told her kids it was takeaway.

Because we all know that for some reason, kids just love takeaway.

”We’ve got tortellini minestrone, I also ordered chicken cacciatore with some rice,” she told her kids as her partner could be heard in the background helping to sell the lie.

She’s now turned the video into the series, sharing one clip showing the lengths she goes to to keep her kids from uncovering the truth.

Responding to a comment saying, “wouldn’t they have seen you cooking it though?” MacLaren filmed herself with slow cooker in hand, walking down to what appears to be a basement, plugging it in and leaving it to do it’s thing.

In another video, one of her kids could be heard saying “I’m so excited” as she began to unpack a bag of Greek food she had ‘ordered’ with a brief look of panic flashing across her face when her child pointed out this restaurant had used the same container as the last.

“All the restaurants use the same container,” she promptly responded.
