But rather than be scandalised at his jokes, his three children – a seven-year-old son, a three-year-old daughter, and a newborn – might find themselves more mortified at their dad’s antics, considering a lot of his material is about them.
He just can’t help it, he tells 9honey – they’re just too funny.
“As they get older, they are just hilarious,” the 40-year-old says.

“Most of the stuff that they do makes it into my phone notes app, because…[he thinks] this is surely funny enough to tell on stage.
“But the balancing act is working out what should be said on stage and what is going to defame them later in life.”
His new show You Paid For This – like all of his others – is all about his life at this point in time.

This iteration is about balancing being a “professional clown” with being a dad of three – which, to him, is the real “act” he has to put on.
“I’m really holding these two worlds apart. Like, you know, on the one hand, I’m this comedian that entertains adult [and] says things that you’re not supposed to say, and probably pushes boundaries.”
But his role to his kids is to “maintain boundaries for them and tell them what is acceptable and unacceptable and what language should and shouldn’t be used.”

When it does come time for them to see what their dad has been up to, there’s no doubt they’ll understand where he’s coming from.
Though he started his career talking about race, religion, and politics, since becoming a dad, Nazeem’s projects have become more kid-friendly.
The comic is the author of the children’s book series Hy-larious Hyena, and has recently starred in The Role of a Lifetime with Kate Ritchie, which teaches audiences about parenting through scripted comedy and interviews with experts.

Of course, the comedian still has his signature material that audiences love (and pay for). It’s only a matter of time until his kids become audience members – and future critics.
So far, Nazeem has been able to stave off his kids by telling them his jokes are mostly for adults, but he knows his day of reckoning is fast approaching.
“I’m nervous about the day my kid comes back from school and says, ‘Hey, one of my friends showed me a clip of yours, and you’re saying this word and that word and making fun of stuff that you said I’m not allowed to make fun of!’
“The hypocrisy is gonna be unveiled at some point,” he has accepted.
