NRL star Alex Johnston engaged: South Sydney Rabbitohs player’s announcement after proposal to partner Taryn Carson

It’s already been a huge year for rugby league star Alex Johnston, who recently broke the all-time NRL try-scoring record, but his personal life is just as exciting.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs star proposed to his partner Taryn Carson after more than a decade – and she said yes!

Johnston proposed with the help of their three children, and Carson added a cheeky caption to the Instagram post announcing the news.

“11.5 years later,” she captioned the post, adding a crying laughing emoji and a love heart emoji.

For the proposal, Johnston had a banner printed showing their children looking at the camera with their hands in a pleading position.

The text around the edge of the photo read: “Hey Mom, please join us, become a Johnston?”

The beautiful announcement came with a carousel of images, including one of the winger with their three children, another of the happy couple with her new rock and another of her with their youngest.

The post was flooded with congratulations.

“Best news guys ❤️❤️❤️ congratulations. All good things come to those who wait @taryn___c,” said fellow NRL star Damien Cook.

Fellow Rabbitohs star Cam Murray said: “Congratulations fam, best news ever ❤️”

NRLW star Millie Boyle wrote: “Congratulations guys!!!” and even The Wiggles also responded with their congratulations for the happy couple.

The couple, who have been together for 16 years, are parents to Sonny, five, Avery, two, and six-month-old Robby.

Their romance started with a Facebook friend request.

Carson, who was a dancer at the time, asked to be ‘friends’ with the NRL Pistol after seeing they went to neighboring secondary schools.

The family were all there last month to support Johnston through the career milestone of breaking the all-time try scoring record.

After the game, Carson shared a montage of photos from his career, along with an emotional message for him.

“From the highest highs to the lowest lows, we have been with you on this journey,” she started.

“You have supported yourself even when things have been difficult, and you have never accepted defeat. You calmly go about your business at home, at work and in life in general, never asking for recognition and just doing what needs to be done.

‘We have seen you suffer heartbreak, injuries and setbacks over the years. From preparing to move to the highway in 2020, to the Achilles tendon surgery and recovery with two young children.

“Last night was surreal and we are so grateful we were there to witness and celebrate you. You truly live the saying ‘never give up.’

“213 attempts and a record earned through hard work and perseverance. We are so proud of you @alexjohnston95 ❤️.”
