Pier One Sydney Harbour offers free stay for dogs for King’s Birthday public holiday

King Charles cavaliers are getting into the public holiday spirit to celebrate their namesake’s birthday this long weekend.

Pier One Sydney Harbour is offering a free stay to King Charles cavaliers and all of their other furry friends with their Royal Pup Package.

Giving pups the royal treatment they deserve, the hotel’s package includes a doggy bandana, premium food and water bowls and the use of a luxury dog bed for the duration of the stay.

Other luxuries pups will have access to include a pup snack breakfast buffet, a complimentary puppy cocktail and access to the Dog treat cart at Pier Bar.

These inclusions designed with small to medium breeds in mind.

The hotel bar will also be offering complimentary mini Puppy Cocktails to all pups. No bookings are required, just rock up with your pup on the King’s Birthday on Monday, June 9 to enjoy the waterfront views.

The Royal Pup Package offer is running from June 7 to 24, available across Pier Access Room bookings and starting from $339.

When travelling with your pup, there are a few things you need to keep in mind, says Dr Katrina Warren.

Pet owners need to be prepared and do their research about holiday locations, especially if there may be pests like ticks that may bury into your friend’s fur.

“You want to do your research about where you’re going,” Warren told Today, sharing that owners should make sure tick prevention and other details like vaccinations and even microchips should be checked before heading off.

She also encourages ID tags with a phone number on them so pet owners can be contacted straight away without having to take the dog to a vet to scan the microchip details.

When going on drives with pups, Warren adds to make sure they have been restrained in the car properly.

“The laws vary state to state but your pet can’t be a distraction and you’re not allowed to drive with them on your lap,” she said, urging them to put their pets in “a secure harness or in a crate behind a grill,” asking them to check the harness they’re using has been crash tested.

Some other good-to-haves a re creature comforts like their favourite foods and grooming products in case they get messy.
