Police seek man over disappearance of five-year-old girl in NT

The five-year-old, named Sharon by police, was reported missing from Alice Springs at around 1.30am yesterday.

Officers will resume the search on foot for her today and would like to speak to the man, whose name is Jefferson Lewis.

Police say Sharon was last seen by family when she was put to bed at her home on Marshall Court in Old Timers Camp around 11:30pm on Saturday.

“Police conducted an initial search of the area using extensive resources and were unable to locate Sharon,” an NT Police statement said.

‘She was last seen wearing a dark blue short sleeve T-shirt with a white ring stripe around the neck and a white ring stripe around the sleeves, and a pair of black boxer shorts.

“Police are seeking public assistance to find the 47-year-old man, Mr Jefferson Lewis, who police believe can assist with investigations.”

At a press conference, acting commander Mark Grieve said police had been unable to locate Lewis.

“It is believed he was in the area around that time and staying at the residence,” he said,” Acting Commander Grieve said.

“He remains currently one of the few people who were in the Old Timers camp at the time who did not report to the police, nor were the police able to locate him.

“We believe Sharon has been kidnapped.”
