Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding photographer recalls warning to guests about lip reading

Prince Harry and Meghan‘s wedding photographer has shared some fascinating insights into the couple’s big day.

Alexi Lubomirski has shared a TikTok video recalling events leading up to the royal wedding on May 19, 2018, following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s seventh anniversary – including the warning issued to their guests.

Lubomirski took the couple’s official engagement portraits in 2017 before being asked to do the same at the wedding.

Initially, he and his wife received an invitation to the wedding, before the request was made for him to serve as photographer.

Lubomirski was photographed arriving for the Windsor Castle event with his wife, able to enjoy the ceremony before taking the portrait later in the day.

It was upon their arrival that Lubomirski said he and his fellow wedding guests were given a warning by the guards stationed outside the gates.

He recalled them saying, ”Ladies and gentlemen, please be careful what you are saying to each other because the world can lip read.”

Lubomirski said what followed was a lot of people talking with their hands over their mouths.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about, but everyone on these cameras is watching and lip-reading,” he explained.

Harry and Meghan married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

They then made their way to the Green Room inside the castle to pose for portraits with the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and the bridal party, taken by Lubomirski.

He mentioned having to follow royal “etiquette” and “hierarchy” while setting up the shoot, and explained the children who were part of the bridal party were restless and difficult to direct.

After overhearing one of the nannies promise to give the children “Smarties” chocolates for behaving, the photographer realised exactly how to get them to pay attention to his directions.

”I had all the kids there, some were on the floor, some were standing, some on laps, just trying to get a bit of informality to it,” he explained.

At one point “none of the kids were looking” at Lubomirski and were “running around”.

“I could see the Queen shuffling in her seat, so I suddenly shouted, ‘Who likes Smarties?’, remembering what the nanny had said before,” he said.

“And all the kids looked at me, and Harry suddenly said, ‘Me!’ which makes you smile.”

That was when he took the photo, the incredible result speaking for itself.
